EVENT RULES
This event is run under the rules of the World Athletics (WA), Athletics South Africa (ASA), and Western Province Athletics (KZNA).
ENTRANT RESPONSIBILITY
It is the responsibility of the entrant (or their legal guardian) to ensure that all the correct participant information is supplied. Entrants who provide incorrect or incomplete information on their entry forms, whether electronically or written, may not qualify for any gender or age category prizes.
ENTRY LIMIT
Limited to 16,000 entries.
RULES
- The 10km Run is open to all female runners 14 years and older.
- The 10km Walk is open to all female walkers 14 years and older. No running is permitted in the 10km Walk.
- The 5km Run/Walk is open to all female runners/walkers 9 years and older.
- Social walkers welcome. Walkers to please keep to the side to allow faster competitors to pass.
- Please note that this is a women’s event. Men are eligible to enter but are NOT eligible for position or lucky draw prizes. Men will receive no seeding preference and will not be permitted to finish within the top 20 positions.
- Closing date for entries is 9th March 2025 or when the maximum of 16,000 entries is confirmed across the 10km and 5km events.
- In order to be eligible to compete, all entrants must read and agree to the Race Rules and the Indemnity and Waiver available online during the entry process.
- Groups of 10 or more runners/walkers (corporates, family, and friends) are encouraged to do a bulk entry. Please email nuha@topevents.co.za for more information.
- Company teams are encouraged to wear SPAR T-shirts. No other sponsored T-shirts to be worn.
- Number Collection happens when you collect your race number at one of the participating Sportsman’s Warehouse outlets.
- Race number, T-shirt, and the SPAR Cape Town race magazine must be collected before race day at the pickup point you specify on your online entry. NO number collection or late entries on the day of the race.
- NO changing of t-shirt sizes will be permitted at number collection.
- The race circuit starts and finishes in Green Point, Cape Town. A route map will be available at the Registration venues.
- Race timing: Only the 10km Run and Walk will be officially timed.
- For the timed 10km Run and Walk, participants will be issued with one SPAR race number to be worn on the front and one temporary licence to be worn on the back. Licensed runners must wear their permanent ASA licenses, front and back. The SPAR race number must be worn partially covering the ASA licence so that the ASA licence sponsor remains visible.
- 5km participants will receive one SPAR race number to be worn on the front.
- Seeding: All club runners dressed in club colours will be seeded for the 10km Challenge Run. Runners and walkers will be seeded separately.
- Water will be available along the route and at the finish. We strongly encourage runners/walkers to carry their own to help limit water consumption and reduce plastic.
- Do not litter. Dispose of your cups responsibly by using the boxes provided or carrying them to the Finish. Report offenders to the referees. #RunClean #RunGreen.
- Toilets will be available at the start, on the route, and at the finish.
- Tog bag facilities will be available at the finish. Organisers will take reasonable care but no responsibility will be accepted for damages or loss of personal items. Do not leave valuables or cash in your tog bag.
- Medals will be awarded to the first 16,000 finishers.
- In addition to overall (Open) prizes, participants will only be eligible for an age category prize in the age category they enter. Participants may enter the age category corresponding to their chronological age or any younger category down to Senior. Age category tags must be worn front and back and must be visible for the duration of the race in order to be eligible for any age category prize, including Juniors.
- Unlicensed participants are eligible for age category prizes provided they enter the relevant age group, wear the appropriate age tags, and provide proof of age.
- Club colours must be worn to qualify for team prizes.
- All members of a team must be permanently licensed athletes from the same club and from the same province. No foreign athletes may form part of a club team unless they comply with ASA rule 9 to be eligible to hold an ASA permanent licence and have registered a change of allegiance. Any athlete wearing a Temporary Licence shall not be eligible for a club team prize, even if the athlete has been issued a permanent licence but is not wearing it during the competition.
- No personal seconding shall be allowed on the route, except at official refreshment stations.
- Marshalls and traffic officials must be obeyed at all times. Failure to comply with instructions may lead to immediate disqualification.
- Refreshments will be on sale at the Finish area. Halaal available.
- Pets are not permitted.
- The use of music players with headphones is not permitted and may result in disqualification.
- Participants with prams, strollers, and small children will be allowed to participate in the 5km Challenge Fun Run ONLY and do so at their own risk. Please assemble at the rear end of the field and give way to runners at all times.
- Wheelchair athletes must please contact the organisers timeously to discuss arrangements for their participation.
- The SPAR Group shall have all media rights to this race event. You understand and agree that any form of media pertaining to this event, including your image, may be used by the SPAR Group at its sole and exclusive discretion without further notice to or consent by you.
- The SPAR Group, and Disaster Risk Management, reserve the right to refuse or to limit the number of race entries as they may deem necessary at their sole and exclusive discretion.
- The race is organised by Western Province Athletics according to the rules of ASA.

PRIZE GIVING AND PRIZES
- In addition to Overall (Open) prizes, participants will only be eligible for an age category prize in the age category they enter. Corresponding numerical age category tags must be worn on the front and back of their Club vest. Participants may enter the age category corresponding to their chronological age or any younger category down to Senior.
- Temporary licensed participants are eligible for age category prizes provided they enter the relevant age group, wear the appropriate age tags, and provide proof of age.
- Juniors born 2006 or after must display age tags “J” to qualify for age group prizes.
- Prizes: Prize giving starts at 09:30. Only entrants present when the lucky draw takes place will be eligible to win prizes. CHILDREN UNDER 14 YEARS IN THE 10KM AND ANY MALE ENTRANTS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ANY PRIZES. CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 9 YEARS IN THE 5KM. Entertainment will start at 10:00.
- Please tear off your lucky draw number on race day and place it in the lucky draw box on the stage. Only entrants present at prize giving will be eligible to win a lucky draw prize.
IF YOU DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE EVENT, YOU WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR A GOODY BAG OR MEDAL.
TOP EVENTS COMPULSORY DISPOSABLE TIMING CHIP
Your Timing chip has been placed on the front of your race number. The race number must be worn on the front of your vest and visible at the finish line. There is a foam backing on the back of the race number. Please do not remove the timing chip and foam strip from the race number – doing so will result in NO finish time. For safety and timing purposes, ONLY the person assigned to this race number may use it. For all results or results queries, please ensure that the timing chip is not covered by any bags, straps, or items of clothing.
